The year is flying by and before we know it, Guy Fawkes will be upon us.
For the majority of us, this is not our pet’s first Guy Fawkes, so we have some idea how they will react. I cannot stress enough, if you know your pet finds these events stressful, NOW is the time to create a plan. Even if your pet has not found these events stressful in the past, I still highly recommend taking precautionary measures to keep them safe and calm. You never know when one bad experience can frighten your pet, creating a lifelong anxiety. Ollie is a great example of this. He spent his puppyhood living on an army base and has always been accustomed to loud bangs so, fireworks have never concerned him. As he gets older, and sleeps more deeply, he is more easily startled by loud noises. It would be very easy for him to develop anxiety around fireworks if we did not manage this well. Sadly, every single year, animals go missing, suffer severe distress or a seriously injured or killed as a result of fireworks.
